Hi!
I'm Stephanie, but friends call me "X." I'm a red-headed video game nut and customer service/tech support representative in beautiful-but-bizarre Austin, TX.
My roots lie in New England; I'm a European mutt, with Native American lineage aside.
I collect religions, so to speak - my library is filled with texts ranging from the Egyptian and Tibetan books of the dead, to historical portraits of South American, African and Australian Aborignal shamanism, to tomes of left-hand and right-hand path spells and philosophies, to the "Forgotten" books of the Bible, to Aleister Crowley's treatises on magick -- all alongside the DSM-IV, biology textbooks, archaeology binders, and more.
I hike, fish, scuba dive, horseback ride, occasionally hunt, scavenge bones and shells from various and sundry locations, and when back home in Massachusetts am something of an amateur naturalist on the whale watch boats.
I've grown from using pen and paper media to working with natural forms and shapes -- most especially animal bones, fur, teeth, claws and feathers. This, blended with clockwork parts, metal scrap, paint and semiprecious stones are all part of my peculiar madness. I make totems of sorts by request and by commission, and am currently building up stock for an Etsy store.
All of my taxidermy materials were obtained legally - where applicable, trapped or harvested within federal and state law. Most of the pieces I pick up (if I didn't find them while hiking) are rescues from old mounts that would have otherwise been destroyed or discarded - for instance, items found at yard or garage sales or at flea markets. All are treated with the utmost respect.
Critiques and comments are welcome.
Thanks for looking!
